Guidelines for Faculty Exchange
The exchange program provides faculty with an opportunity to: deepen their cultural and academic understanding of France, strengthen ties between their institution and French counterparts, and enrich their teaching and community through authentic resources and experiences. It is also an expectation that the teacher support the Fellows program by assisting the Fellows chaperone and students on an as-needed basis. The teacher would be participating in many of the same events and outings as the Fellows and their chaperone.
All participants are expected to return with a concrete product or outcome in one of the following forms:
● A scholarly study
● A curated collection of authentic resources
● An instructional unit
Expectations Before Departure
1. Project Proposal
● Clearly identify whether you will pursue:
a. A study (research-based),
b. A resource collection, or
c. A unit design.
● Submit a short proposal outlining objectives, methods, and anticipated impact.
2. Preparation
● Research relevant cultural, historical, or pedagogical topics
● Establish a plan for collecting relevant information in France (museums, schools, public places, etc)
Expectations During the Exchange
1. Engagement
● Actively participate in cultural, academic, and community activities.
● Seek opportunities for collaboration with French colleagues and institutions.
● Provide support for the fellows chaperone as necessary
2. Documentation
● Collect evidence through photos, interviews, recordings, or materials
3. Cultural Responsiveness
● Demonstrate respect for French culture, norms, and institutions.
● Be mindful of ethical considerations in research and resource collection.
Post-Exchange Deliverables
Participants must complete at least one of the following within three months of return in addition to presenting with the fellows in May:
1. Conduct a Study
● A written research paper or report
● Present findings at a departmental or professional forum.
● Submit the report to the program coordinator for archiving.
2. Collect Authentic Resources
● A curated set of authentic materials (e.g., literature, media, interviews, photographs, lesson samples).
● A short guide (3–5 pages) explaining how these resources can be used in teaching or community outreach.
● Digital copies uploaded to the shared faculty resource repository.
3. Design an Instructional Unit
● A complete unit plan (3–5 lessons minimum) that integrates experiences or resources from France.
● Lesson materials should include objectives, activities, and assessments.
● Share the unit at a professional development workshop or faculty meeting.
Accountability and Sharing
● Submit deliverables to the program coordinator by the stated deadline.
● Participate in at least one community sharing session (school assembly, open lecture, or professional development day).
● Acknowledge the funding source in all presentations and publications.
